Busy Bee!

School has been quite a whirlwind for me. I'm reliving everything I learned about 6 years ago the first time I was in cosmetology school. It's nice to relearn the proper ways to do things because I've forgotten a lot over the years. I was still cutting hair every once and a while and I definitely wasn't always using the techniques I had learned from school - I just cut and it worked - but it's nice to be refreshed on  "rules" behind how to cut and style hair so you have a successful cut/color/style every time.

Being in class all day and then working 3-4 nights a week until midnight is really testing me. I've never been okay with only getting 7-8 hours of sleep. 10 hours has always been the minimum for that next day to be considered decent for me. Even without my regular amount of sleep I feel GOOD! I've been taking Airborne chewable tablets to avoid getting sick since there are a few sick people still coming to school plus I work at a grocery store. So far, so good.

I've been put in charge of planning my brother and his girlfriend's baby shower. We're having it in March and I already have the invitations made. I'm really excited because I love love love decorating and planning stuff like that. Hopefully it will turn out as cute and successful as I imagine in my head!

Perspectives on Motherhood

My UNC-Charlotte class, Perspectives on Motherhood, is coming to an end. My professor (who I often brag about) gave us our final exam questions the other day and I can't help but get excited to write the essays for them. There are six (?!) essays to write and only three will be turned in, the topics are fun to write about. I'll admit, I'd rather write a 10 page paper than take a 20 question test, that probably makes me a huge dork but I don't care. Let me just share a couple of the topics I have to write about, they're fairly easy especially after reading a ton of articles about motherhood for our class. Feel free to leave me a comment telling me what your opinion is on these! 

• To father a child means to contribute the sperm that fertilizes an egg; to mother a child means to nurture & care for it. Obviously, women cannot father children; is it also true that men cannot mother them?

• We spent a lot of time this semester critiquing the concept of the "good mother". Explain what this concept is, why it should be rejected, and why it does NOT mean that we should have no standards whatsoever for mother's actions. 

And this made me think of a blog post that I just read earlier today. I'm a huge supporter of natural and home birth and I couldn't have said what she said better. Seeking Motivation

I feel stuck. Unmotivated. I have no desire to further my education at this point. It's rather disappointing, even to myself really. I felt SO good when I got my associates degree. I had finally completed something. I reached a goal. That was and still is a great feeling. I keep holding on to that feeling in hopes that it will boost me to want to finish and get my bachelors degree. I really do not think I would be content with life if I stopped now. If I don't, I know I'd regret it later. So here I am, trying to convince myself to muster up some motivation. Any motivational words are appreciated!

Other than that, things are going good. I'm happy. I really can't believe it's already almost October!

School Days

I had planned on dropping all of my classes for this semester. Actually, I did drop every class that I had signed up for. Then I was informed that if that was done, I would have to reapply for spring semester. Which meant that I would have to pay another application fee, go to another orientation, pay more fees, and possibly lose my financial aid and grants. That didn't seem very appealing to me so I opted to take just one class.

Perspectives on Motherhood is the class that I'm enrolled in. I am enjoying it so much that I am really considering changing my minor to Womens Studies. The class is so broad and so intriguing that I am more than happy to drive to UNC-Charlotte once a week for class. It's a ton of reading but the articles are great and the books are very informative. I love having ideas and thoughts presented from different perspectives and my professor does a phenomenal job of doing so.

I wish I felt like I could handle more classes right now, but it was really overwhelming for the first week. So many new things have come into my life that I think it's better that I wait until next semester to attack school at full force, which will happen.
